The MDS stand-alone (Tube/Tube Rip Wire) is smarter than ever and is ideal for protecting copper cables in security-critical infrastructures.
It uses our smallest sensor, launched in September 2025, the MDS-T – more compact and smaller than ever.
The MDS stand-alone (Tube/Tube Rip Wire) offers the option of extending the integrated rip wire as an “on-top detail.” This allows the cutting of cables to be reliably detected as well.
It can be installed inconspicuously inside or outside cable bundles. Thanks to its own power supply and independent communication, it reliably detects dismantling, removal, cutting, and theft.
At the same time, the MDS stand-alone (Tube/Tube Rip Wire) enables the worldwide location of stolen cables using GPS, for example along railway lines, from cable drums on construction sites, in solar parks, and many other applications. The integrated battery offers a rechargeable version with an operating life of 3–5 years.
With the MDS stand-alone, the MDS Integrated has been consistently developed for stand-alone applications, even in harsh environments, and for maximum flexibility in use.
It detects changes in angle, vibration, and temperature, thus protecting against sabotage, vandalism, and theft. Thanks to GPS, stolen goods can be tracked worldwide in the event of theft.
With a battery pack containing 3 Li batteries with a total charging capacity of 10 Ah, the MDS sensor can be operated around the clock, 7 days a week, for up to 4 years. In this mode, the sensor delivers data on a daily basis.
Thanks to its compact and robust design, it can be used almost anywhere and under the most adverse conditions.
The sensor thus reliably secures objects such as:
• Inverters
• Storage containers, storage areas
• Construction sites, entrances, rooms
• Remote critical infrastructure
• PV power plants, cell towers
• Battery storage systems
• And much more
The MDS stand-alone (Infrared) is a sensor for object and perimeter protection, developed by combining viamon’s core MDS technology with 1 to 3 passive infrared sensors and a battery pack with very high storage capacity for maximum operating times.
The MDS stand-alone (Infrared) is typically used where areas or objects need to be protected against access in a high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective manner. To do this, the device simply needs to be mounted on the object or in the area. The waterproof housing allows it to be used in almost any environment.
Thanks to its high battery capacity, the device then monitors the object or area autonomously for up to three years. It is used very successfully as perimeter protection to prevent intrusion through a fence. The protection of objects is also quick and easy thanks to the completely free installation and autonomous operation of the sensor, making it a core application. The sensor detects living, moving objects at a maximum distance of 15 m. Smaller living objects (such as small animals) and moving objects in the environment (such as grass) are ignored.
In addition, the sensor reports when it is moved or tampered with. This also detects theft of the object on which the MDS stand-alone (infrared) is mounted. Entrances to rooms or containers and other potential entry points can also be monitored easily and over the long term without an additional power supply thanks to the high battery capacity.
The sensor’s internet-based communication with the my.viamon portal generates an alarm, visualizes the current situation, tracks the object, provides information based on an alarm plan (VdS 2465 protocol, SMS, email, smartphone app, or cell phone), and responds with the involvement of security personnel. The warning bar can also be connected as an actuator to an existing alarm system.
MDS stand-alone (infrared) protects environments such as:
• Construction site facilities
• Entrances
• Remote critical
infrastructures
• Solar power plants
• Containers
• Rooms
• Cell phone towers, etc.
The MDS Integrated is the basic sensor of viamon technology. This patented device reacts to vibrations and changes in position (GPS). If the sensor is moved, it immediately sends an alarm signal via GSM and short-range radio to the viamon GmbH alarm center, which is active around the clock and registers the signal.
From there, the information is forwarded and the communication chain stored in the alarm plan (VdS 2465 protocol, SMS, email, smartphone app, or cell phone) is activated.
The MDS Integrated has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the solar industry, but can also be used in other areas. It is integrated directly into the module, inverter, etc., and is not visible from the outside. Installation is quick and easy, both as a factory installation in new systems and as a retrofit for existing systems.
The sensors are installed on the basis of a sophisticated security concept that takes into account not only the specific situation on site but also the use of other complementary technologies such as infrared sensors, cameras, etc. The interaction of the various sensors in a coordinated overall concept dramatically reduces the false alarm rate and ensures a high level of redundancy.
Communication between the various sensors is important for the overall system. Therefore, the functionality of communication is specially protected and monitored. If, for example, attackers attempt to interrupt communication in the park by jamming, the GSM monitor integrated in the device detects this and issues an acoustic and visual warning.
The jamming detector can be controlled externally via integration into the system network and via mobile communications. The warning bar fulfills an important function in the overall concept of viamon. It provides a visual and audible warning signal and is therefore an important component in deterring potential thieves in the early stages of an attempted theft.
When the device is activated by a signal from the sensors, powerful warning lights and flashes (2 x 12 3W LEDs; 2.1 Hz flashes; (blue or yellow)) illuminate. A siren with a maximum sound pressure level of 116 dB(A) sounds unmistakably.
This solution consists of weatherproof outdoor speakers and a remote-controlled, movable searchlight. Control is automated via the viamon sensor network, ensuring an immediate response in the event of an alarm.
For security reasons, we will not go into further detail here so as not to provide potential perpetrators with any information. The viamon team is available at any time to provide you with further insights and individual advice.
Our focus is on a sensor-based security concept for maximum protection. We see cameras as a supplement, but not as a substitute for a complete security concept. They are only used if they are considered appropriate by our experts in the individual concept or at particularly security-critical points. Depending on requirements, fixed systems, mobile towers or autonomous units are available. We rely on high-quality camera solutions from MOBOTIX, a leading German manufacturer.
